news-category: Campus News Legendary Film Music Editor Begins 厙ぴ勛圖 Distinguished Artists Series By Office of University Communications On September 2, 2021 Peter Myles Discusses His Career in Zoom Lecture on Sept. 16 BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.The list of Hollywood directors and composers that legendary film music and sound editor, Peter Myles, has worked with include multi-award winners like Steven Spielberg and John Williams. Myles will discuss his career in the first program of the 厙ぴ勛圖 Distinguished Artists Series. The Zoom lecture will be Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. in Stewart Hall of Tucker Student Center. The event is co-sponsored by The Alfred & Shirley Wampler Caudill Fund. As a film music editor, Myles has worked with a diverse group of directors that also includes Paul Greengrass, Alfonso Cuar籀n, Guillermo del Toro, Gary Ross, Chris Columbus and Denis Villeneuve. The list of composers he has worked with in addition to Williams are John Powell, Ramin Djawadi, Mark Isham, Junkie XL, Alex Heffes and David Buckley. His film credits include three installments in each of the Harry Potter, Bourne and Star Wars series as well as Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Dune, Top Gun: Maverick, and many more. Myles is a five-time nominee and two-time winner of the Golden Reel Awards for outstanding achievements in sound editing. He earned honors for his works on the Greatest Showman and Warcraft. In addition to his film work, he has continued to work in the record industry with credits including John William’s Cello Concerto, An American Journey and more than a dozen film soundtracks. As a trumpeter, he performed and recorded with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, was a member of the Sarasota Opera Orchestra, and performed with the Boston Concert Opera Orchestra and numerous groups in the Boston and Chicago areas. Myles was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, and has been a film music editor since 1998. He is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy, New England Conservatory (Bachelor of Music, trumpet performance) and Northwestern University (Master of Music, Pi Kappa Lambda, trumpet performance) with additional studies at the Interlochen Arts Camp, Music Academy of the West and the Aspen Music Festival. Upon moving to Los Angeles, he joined the staff of Delos Records as a producer/editor where he produced recordings of The Westminster Choir, flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal, tenor John Aler, and guitarist Paul Galbraith, as well as editing numerous recordings of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The program is free to 厙ぴ勛圖 students, faculty and staff and free to all students with a student ID from any school. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens.
